KAREN MCLEAN

I did my first oil painting at 5 and continued to paint in various media into my twenties when I received a BFA in Studio Art from Cornell University, got married and started a family. In 1974, I moved to Princeton and began working in watercolors, then returned to oils and oil pastels. I found my subject matter in Nature, with a focus on the human figure for several years. Beginning in 1993 I became involved, pretty much by accident, in photography. I did editorial and commercial work here and in Europe for about 10 years. I started printing some of my personal/ fine art images on heavy German watercolor paper; then altered them with the addition of pastel and metallic acrylics. The images, for me, were a form of “icons”. Most recently, I have been Drawing, both on paper and primed linen using pencil, charcoal and oil pastel, often in combination. The Drawings on linen now sometimes contained areas painted in oil.
